Ten best British track performances of 2013

A recap of some of the most scintillating moments on the boards from the past year

Dame Sarah Storey

Dame Sarah Storey’s remarkable career began another chapter this year with the birth of daughter Louisa in June. However, any suggestion her extended maternity leave and the new addition would slow the 36-year-old Paralympian were disproved emphatically on her return to competitive action in Newport.

Storey set a blistering pace in the individual pursuit catching American rival Jennifer Schuble two-thirds of the way through the three kilometre race to set a time of 3:45.406 minutes. Although some way off her world record time, the manner of Storey’s victory was remarkable, given she only returned to the bike six weeks ago and admitted that she is far from fully fit.
