Men’s team pursuit
With Team Sky duo Geraint Thomas and Pete Kennaugh now fully committed to their road duties since winning Olympic gold in London, Ed Clancy and Steven Burke have had to adapt to new team mates in 2013. Not that you could tell, however. Welshmen Sam Harrison and Owain Doull, Andy Tennant – the reserve at the Olympics – and Jonathan Dibben have all stepped up to fill the vacant roles in the men’s endurance squad to leave Britain in good shape one year on from the Games.
Despite being considered a developing squad, Clancy, Burke, Tennant and Harrison qualified for the team pursuit final at the European Championships in Apeldoorn in October, and when Doull replaced Harrison for the final they maintained their form to earn a gold medal. And they continued their form, with the same quartet from the final, earning gold again at the Manchester World Cup.
