Five steps to riding an iconic European event

It’s all too easy to pick the biggest, baddest and ugliest sportive on the calendar and make it your main focus of the season.

Perhaps the lure of a big adventure in Europe is such a draw that it may even be your maiden sportive. Whilst there’s no denying that conquering one of the icons, such as the Etape du Tour, La Marmotte or Maratona dles Dolomites is an incredible achievement, making sure that you are well prepared and have the legs to do so is as important (and in some cases even more so) than the event itself.

With hundreds of sportives in the UK throughout the season to choose from the beauty is that, as cyclists, we’re now spoilt for choice for events. Not only is this the perfect excuse to get out and ride more at the weekend but if you have dreams of tackling a Euro sportive in the future then these can be used as stepping stones to build your form, motivation and confidence before you take on that challenge.
