Surrey Legs of Steel – Saturday September 27
The clue is in the name – the Surrey Legs of Steel is a thigh-burning ride which will test your last-season climbing form.
The distance may not be great, with two courses measuring 81km and 46km, but each packs in 1,600m and 1,020m of climbing respectively in the Surrey Hills.
The long route includes the climbs of Ranmore Hill, Leith Hill, Holmbury Hill, Winterfold Hill (which hits 21 per cent), St Martha’s Hill, Coombe Bottom Hill, Dunley Hill and Box Hill.
The event is held in honour of Dave Aitchison, a triathlete who died suddenly in January 2007 aged 29. All profits from the Surrey Legs of Steel, now in its eighth year, go to the Dave Aitchison SportsAid Fund, setup in Aitchison’s name to support talented young triathletes in the region.
