Pinarello reveal Team Sky’s 2017 bike, the Dogma F10 – lighter, stiffer and more aerodynamic

Team Sky have unveiled the new Pinarello Dogma F10 bike on which Chris Froome will bid for a fourth Tour de France victory this summer. The Dogma F10, which is the eighth Pinarello bike to be used by Team Sky is, as you’d expect, said to be lighter, stiffer and more aerodynamic than the current Dogma F8.

Sir Bradley Wiggins rode the Pinarello Dogma 2 to victory at the 2012 Tour de France, swapping to the Dogma 65.1 Think 2 for the final stage. Froome then rode the same bike to the title in 2013, before the Dogma F8 – a collaboration with then-Sky sponsors Jaguar – was launched the following year.

Froome’s two victories since, in 2015 and 2016, have been aboard the Dogma F8 but Team Sky are now set to phase in the Dogma F10 over the 2017 campaign. Whether we’ll see it at the season-opening Tour Down Under later this month remains to be seen.

The Dogma F10 frame is said to weigh 6.3 per cent less than the F8, while being seven per cent stiffer. The geometry, however, remains the same. Nevertheless, with a new concave downtube design, drag has been reduced by 12.6 per cent, while the fork dropouts learn from the design of the Pinarello Bolide TT bike to reportedly reduce drag there by up to ten per cent.

With Shimano still on board as sponsors, the F10 will be dressed in the Japanese giant’s new, updated Dura-Ace Di2 groupset – the junction box of which has been integrated into the downtube, ‘making it easily accessible for adjustment’, according to Pinarello.

Meanwhile, Pinarello say stiffness has been improved through further development of the brand’s asymmetric frame design. The Dogma F10 is also made from Torayca T1100 1K carbon fibre – and Pinarello claim the frame boasts the highest tensile strength in the world as a result.

And the bike, which features the same data pattern design as the team’s new Castelli kit, has naturally been given Froome’s seal of approval.

“I’ve always valued the way Pinarello work so closely with the team and the riders. It’s a true partnership,” said Froome.

“They make sure they are providing us with the best possible equipment for all types of racing. They are always seeking to go one better and that’s what they’ve done with the F10.

“I’ve been working on the new F10 with Pinarello for a long time now and so I’m really looking forward to starting my season on it. It’s a natural born winner.”

Team Sky’s head of technical operations Carsten Jeppesen, also hadn’t held back on the hyperbole. He added: “The F10 is the latest in a long line of cutting-edge and forward-thinking bikes from Pinarello, exemplifying the wonderful relationship we’ve enjoyed with them since the team’s inception.

“We were delighted to extend our partnership through to 2020 in the summer and firmly believe that the F10 is the best bike they’ve ever produced. Now we can’t wait to see it on the road in 2017.”
