Tour Down Under 2014: stage four – five observations

Andre Greipel conquers the crosswinds, leaving Marcel Kittel plenty to ponder

Andre Greipel (Lotto-Belisol) proved he should never be written off, as he opened his 2014 account in style in stage four of the Tour Down Under.

The German champion benefitted from a superb lead-out in the crosswinds of Victor Harbour to power to a comfortable victory.

With the winds, and the pace of Orica-GreenEDGE, causing havoc throughout the day it made for a great spectacle – despite predictions of a straight-forward sprinters’ stage beforehand.

And with the battle for the ochre jersey seemingly set to go to the wire, there is plenty to consider for any observers.
