A solid, if unspectacular start to the season for Andrew Talansky, second best young rider at last year’s Tour de France, could well be the base for a strong summer showing as he bids to improve on his tenth place at last year’s Tour de France. One of a number of promising young riders at Garmin-Sharp, the 25-year-old American rode in support of another – Australian Rohan Dennis at last year’s race.
This time out, however, if Garmin-Sharp stick with their provisional line-up, Talansky will join the likes of Giro top-ten finisher Ryder Hesjedal, experienced Brit David Millar and New Zealand ace Jack Bauer on the start line. With a balance of climbing quality and experience, the team will certainly be hopeful of a strong showing. Talansky’s own form has seen him climb well in Catalunya on his way to seventh overall as his best result. Now, if he is serious about a strong Tour de France showing, this will be the time for him to step it up.
