As would be expected of one of the key form finders for the Tour de France, a strong field will be on the start line as they look to prove their form. Among them is rising British star Adam Yates (Orica-GreenEDGE), who has been in supreme form this year. He will ride with no pressure, with Simon Gerrans as team leader, but Tour of Turkey winner Yates has proved he can climb with the best this year.
Another young rider in good form is Bob Jungels (Trek Factory Racing), the Luxembourg champion, who has big things expected of him, while Tejay van Garderen (BMC Racing) will be keen to make amends after missing out in Romandie because of a crash in the prologue.
A form rider in Romandie was Simon Spilak (Katusha), who finished second, and with Daniel Moreno expected on the start line alongside him, the Russian team will be keen to put a disappointing Giro behind them. Thomas Voeckler (Team Europcar) has already stated his intention to show his colours, meanwhile, and end his search for a first stage win of the season.
Elsewhere, Daniel Navarro (Cofidis) leads the Pro Continental riders on show as he looks to build form ahead of the Tour de France – where he finished ninth last year. There is also a smattering of Giro d’Italia stars on the provisional start list and after a strong showing in Italy, it will be interesting to see if Wilco Kelderman (Belkin), who faded slightly towards the end of the final week, will still be in shape to compete for overall honours.
