Francis Mourey won his first UCI Cyclo-Cross World Cup event since November 2006 in Namur in December to prove he is still a force to be reckoned with at World Cup level. The Frenchman, who completed last year’s Giro d’Italia on the road, has enjoyed a fairly successful on the ‘cross bike, with his Namur win and national championship success among his biggest achievements.
Narrowly beaten in his home country last weekend, in Nommay, Mourey nevertheless showed he is in good form ahead of the Worlds with a strong ride from the front to finish second. Showing great resilience to bridge back to Philipp Walsleben when the German went clear, Mourey was rewarded with a podium place which he is more than capable of replicating in Hoogerheide.
