Italian all-rounder Eva Lechner has seemingly come to form at just the right time, having finished third at the two final World Cup races of the season, first in her home country in Rome and then in Nommay. Although she may have slipped slightly under the radar with Katie Compton and Marianne Vos dominating the main headlines, her performance in Rome in particular highlighted her ability.
A national champion across the disciplines, Lechner put in a strong ride to catch early leader Ellen van Loy before comprehensively dropping both her and Frenchwoman Pauline Ferrand-Prevot to finish comfortably clear in third place with the likes of Wyman, Harris, Cant and German legend Hanka Kupfernagel trailing in her wake. Definitely an outside for the main prize in Hoogerheide, but on current form a podium is not beyond her.
