Eight-time British champion and two-time European champion, British icon Helen Wyman already boasts a jersey collection to be proud of and after winning back her red and blue stripes and retaining her yellow stars already this season, she starts as an outsider for the World Championships. The form of Wyman and compatriots Nikki Harris and Gabby Durrin have allowed Great Britain to top the nations’ rankings for much of the season and they will certainly not be in Hoogerheide just to make up numbers.
Both Wyman and Harris have proved they are good enough to win on the biggest stage, with both having finished on the podiums with regularity all season. And Wyman appears to have found her form at the perfect time, showing great resilience to finish second in Nommay behind Vos. Though by her own admission Vos and Compton are seemingly unbeatable, a bit of luck and the ride of her life could spring a huge surprise in Hoogerheide. At the very least, a podium place and a medal appear more than attainable.
