Base training
The importance of a solid base really shouldn’t be overlooked and is the foundation that all fitness can be built upon. Allow yourself adequate time to develop your endurance base, traditionally using the winter months to get the basics in place and the spring to start increasing the volume and consistency.

As base training generally consists of longer, lower intensity, sessions it can be easy to push too hard during this part of your training as you may feel like you’re not trying hard enough. Relax. Consistent base training will condition your body to be more efficient as well as being able to handle long hours on the bike, both of which are essential for sportive success.
