UCI Cyclo-Cross World Championships: the contenders

A look at those in with a shout of winning the rainbow jersey in Hoogerheide

Sanne Cant has proved a constant rival to Great Britain’s Nikki Harris throughout the year, with the two sharing many podiums. With a proud Belgian tradition in the sport to defend, Cant currently sits third in the world rankings after being narrowly beaten to a podium finish in the overall World Cup standings.

Victory at the Superprestige in Gavere and the Bpost Bank Trofee in Hasselt – where she finished first ahead of the British triumvirate – have proved her undoubted ability. And having finished third in 2012, she also knows what it takes to reach the podium at the World Championships. Her palmares may not match some of her male compatriots, but it could all change with victory in Hoogerheide.
