Take a step down the range and the Factor ACC is another premium shoe at £249.99. Like the Prolight SLX II, the Factor ACC’s upper is made from Evofibre, but the sole is Easton’s regular EC90, rather than the slightly lighter SLX version.
The shoe is secured by two velcro straps and Giro’s new ‘MR1’ buckle. The buckle has an impressively low profile and allows for two-way adjustment (tightening and loosening) in 2mm increments, while there ‘s also a quick release for swift removal of the shoe.
Giro say the low stack height (just shy of 7mm lower than their previous buckle) reduces the likelihood of damage, which the buckle also has a crash guard to protect it. Giro say this comes as a result of feedback from racers, who said it is impossible to continue in a race with a broken buckle.
Claimed weight for the Factor ACC is 240g for a size 42.5. The shoe will be available in the same size-range as the Prolight SLX II, in two colours (matte white/black, red/white).
The Factor ACC is one of a number of shoes Giro also offer in a ‘High Volume’ fit, for riders with a wide foot or high instep. The HV shoe is available in black only and sizes 40-48.
